How to make a British cup of Tea: The Basics

Making tea can be an artform. Buddhist tea cermonies are just one example of this. Making tea several times a day through your life can mean we easily forget how lucky we are to know how to make a great cupa in Britain.

The components needed for making a British cupa are:
a cup (doesn't have to be a china cup)
a kettle of boiled water (preferebly the water has only been boiled once- so don't fill the kettle if you don't need to)
a tea bag (one per cup. If you're making a pot of tea for people make sure you give one tea bag for the pot too)
a tea spoon (to stir tea clockwise)
milk
(some also like to add sugar)

Here's a video to show you the basics. It may seem obvious to Brits, but you'll be surprised how many think milk should go in first, or stir the tea anti-clockwise.
This tea was English Breakfast tea. The way to make tea will depend on your taste and what tea it is. If you try Earl Grey I advise you~ DON'T put milk in!

  1. It's all about leaving the tea bag in for about 1 minute 15 seconds, and with 1 1/4 tea spoons of sugar. That's the one.
